Who out there is of an age to remember one of the most famous ad campaigns for a familiar purveyor of jellies and jams? “With a name like Smuckers, it has to be good,” went the refrain. The conceit that the sound of the word makes the meaning self-evident also works in regard to SHADEmakers Quadrifolio Centrepost Parasol. Albeit, that moniker is a might more multi-syllabic than Smuckers, yet the meaning remains manifest: with a name like Quadrifolio Centrepost Parasol, it has to provide a good 100 square meters of heat-thwarting shade.

The piece is the manufacturer’s largest commercial timber parasol, and that’s no small shakes for a company that banks its reputation on creating huge swaths of shade. The lynchpin of the Quadrifolio Centrepost is its central mast of Iroko Timber. At 140 x 140 mm this member is actually on the small side given its astounding structural capabilities.  The advantage of the central support is that it eliminates the familiar obstruction of multiple poles, thus not only providing, in the process, a better view, but also “potentially allowing more covers to be served which is crucial to any business.”

The Quadrifolio Centrepost thus has broad commercial applications, but it’s also just the ticket for residential decks that have little to no protection from that brutal southern exposure. It also comes standard with ground anchor or deck plate installation, a feature that secures the entirety of its 10 x 10 m span in the face of wind uplift and drag, which can exact a heavy toll on a summer afternoon, especially when the table beneath is laden with all manner of delightful imbibements and scrumptious comestibles.

Options for the Quadrifolio Centrepost Parasol include spokes of aluminum instead of timber, slide curtains with Velcro fasteners, and fabric in solution dyed acrylic or Solstis Air Ferrari—each available in more than 20 colors.
