There is a misconception of what sound comes from the center speaker in a Dolby soundtrack. All of the sound associated with the main scene, that you see on your screen, plays through the center along with the dialogue. The center needs to be able to keep the voice distinct from the action, produce “Big Sound” to bring the movie alive, do it without being turned up too loud, while being able to keep up with the other speakers when the movie crescendo’s and all the speakers are playing at once. It has the toughest job in the system and it should be the best speaker in the design!
